The Nature & Statement of Purpose Of FSPH

The Franciscan Sisters of the Pure Heart (FSPH) aspire to form a Private Association of the Faithful, in view of being erected, in the future, as a Religious Institute of Diocesan Rite. They will make vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and purity of heart, and live common life while dedicating themselves to apostolic ministry, according to the universal Law of the Church and their Statutes. Each Sister shall have a contemplative heart in her desire for complete union with Jesus Christ. From this union of hearts flows her apostolic mission and service.

The Charism of FSPH is to incarnate the Beatitude “Blessed are the pure of heart, for they shall see God” (Mt 5:8) in the hearts of young people. The mission of the FSPH is to protect and preserve the innocence and purity of children, youth, and young adults, and to be spiritual mothers to the spiritual orphans of our time. Spiritual orphans are those who do not know the love of Jesus Christ, and therefore lack a fundamental identity as sons and daughters of the Father.

As a bride of Christ, an FSPH sister’s spiritual motherhood will look like this: uniting herself to the Immaculate and Sorrowful Heart of Our Lady, she will bear in her heart the lives and souls of those she serves, and bring them to Jesus.

Following in the footsteps of St. Francis and embracing a life of poverty, the sisters will live and serve among the poor, with a special concern to re-evangelize the youth of immigrant populations.

The sisters of FSPH are Charismatic in that they desire that the gifts and fruits of the Holy Spirit will be stirred up into living flames of love in their own hearts, and in the hearts of young people. Like the early Church after Pentecost, the sisters will be filled with missionary and apostolic zeal to carry the presence of the Lord to the spiritual orphans of our time.

The sisters of FSPH firmly believe and proclaim that the pure heart is a place where the Holy Spirit can dwell and move freely. The sisters believe that as young people come to know the freedom of the children of God through the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in them, they will live their baptismal identity as sons and daughters of the Father to the full; and fruits of that will be the sanctification of young souls, and vocations to the priesthood and religious life.

With the hearts of Jesus, Mary and Joseph always before them as models, FSPH will strive always to love God and neighbor with pure hearts, and to nurture pure souls for the Church, the Bride of Christ, so She will be beautiful and radiant when her Bridegroom comes again.
